Cringe with Comedy...

Because everyone needs a good laugh....

1. 21 JUMP STREET (2012)

What is it? - This movie is based on 2 high school classmates, who both end up being amateur cops in the police force. In order to bust a drug ring, they go undercover as  students, with only their high school experience to go by. 2 hours of pure laughter!

Where to watch? - Good News! '21 Jump Street' is available on the following streaming   services:
Rotten Tomatoes Rating - 82% average audience rating

Worth the watch? -
  • If you need cheering up this is definitely the movie for you.
  • It had me laughing from the start and the whole way through.
  • Honestly one of the best double acts in comedy I've seen and the script is written perfectly.
  • Can't get enough of this? Try the follow up movie, 22 Jump Street!

2. THE DUTCHESS (2020)

What is it? - A single parent tries to raise her daughter in the busy city of London, while considering having another child, with her ex-husband....

Where to watch? - The complete series of 'The Duchess' is available to all Netflix users to watch at any time! This is the only subscription platform, however, if you don't want to pay to watch have a look at Netflix' 30 day free scheme!

Rotten Tomatoes Rating - Yet to be released

Worth the watch? -
  • More a witty show rather than comedy, however, it is hilarious nonetheless.
  • The mother-daughter relationship will have you crying with laughter and for some of you, you might even relate.
  • Only downside is there is only 1 season, but hopefully more to come!

3. MOTHERLAND (2016)

What is it? - This sitcom centres around working class parents and the regular difficulties they experience day to day....from the intensity of the morning school run, to the sheer commotion of organising a kids' party.

Where to watch? - Series 1 of 'Motherland' is available to watch on Netflix, or non Netflix users are able to watch both series 1 and 2 on BBC iPlayer for free!

Rotten Tomatoes Rating - 82% average audience rating

Worth the watch? -
  • This sitcom is similar in a sense to 'The Duchess' mentioned above, but at the same time the story is flipped. Rather than being an over-protective parent, Julie can't wait for even just a minutes break from her kids!
  • I am sure if there's any mums reading, there will have been at least point in which you related to this series.
  • Very funny sitcom that will have you laughing at the wide range of ridiculous excuses.

4. DERRY GIRLS (2018)

What is it? - This British sitcom set in Derry, Northern Ireland, focuses on the lives of the main character Erin, her cousin, and their 3 friends, who attend an all girls Catholic Secondary School. Throughout the series, we see the teens face the hilarious troubles of life in Derry.

Where to watch? - Anyone interested in watching 'Derry Girls' can watch it on Netflix (if you have a subscription) or on Channel 4's on-demand service, All 4! Simply create an account and watch away for free.

Don't want to create an account? - Season 1 of 'Derry Girls' is available to watch on Dailymotion following the link below:

Rotten Tomatoes Rating - 96% average audience rating

Worth the watch? -
  • If there is one series I could watch over and over again and still enjoy just as much as the first time, it would be this one.
  • Each characters personality will have you laughing for hours, especially Claire!
  • Despite the show portraying the challenges of life in Derry, the humour throughout displays how they just got on with life (reluctantly).

5. COOL RUNNINGS (1993)

What is it? - A group of men from Jamaica make the decision to form a Bobsleigh team, and unexpectedly enter the Winter Olympics! With near disasters and only a disgraced Coach to lead them to victory, this movie will have you laughing for hours. Based on a true story!

Where to watch? - 'Cool Runnings' is  available to watch on Youtube, free of charge! Alternatively, Disney plus users also  have access to the movie.

Youtubers viewers looking for a better quality copy? - If you are willing to spend some  money, it is available to rent on PrimeVideo.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating - 81% average audience rating

Worth the watch? -
  • I remember watching this for the first time as a kid and even to this day it is just as good.
  • Despite being an older film, chances are you will laugh at this more than you laugh at most comedy films/series today!
  • The hilarious nature of the characters and their friendship on their journey to victory really makes the film.
